SIMON PALMER (BRITISH, B. 1956): THE COUNTRY HOUSE inscribed with title l.l. and signed l.r; watercolour 23cm x 20cm; 9in x 8in Palmer is one of the most talented watercolourists working in Britain today. His work unmistakably belongs to the rich tradition of visionary English landscape painting originating from his namesake Samuel Palmer in the nineteenth century through to Eric Ravilious and Paul and John Nash in the twentieth. Despite this, the narrative style of his work, together with the constant references to his own time, give his watercolours a distinctive and richly original character of their own.
