This intriguing early twentieth century view of Hyde Park is probably by an artist in the circle of Paul Maitland and Albert Ludovici who did very similar views at around the same date. It bears some comparison with the work of William Evelyn Osborn (1868-1906), who executed similar London views on the same scale.

The present work was used as the frontispiece to Flight's first linocut textbook, Lino-cuts: A Hand-book of Linoleum-cut Colour Printing (1927). This print was impressed on the reverse of the sheet, the colours showing through the fine translucent paper. It is possibly one of the most significant British prints of the early 20th century.

Born in Holland and apprenticed to a church painter, Jungmann studied at the Rijksacademie before coming to London on a scholarship and settling as a British subject. His figurative work is highly decorative, frequently Art Nouveau in character and often executed on trips back to the continent to Holland (where he painted regularly in Volendam), and to Brittany and Normandy. He illustrated some highly acclaimed topographical works from these travels including Holland (1904), Norway (1905), and Normandy (1905). His wife Beatrix Mackay also wrote the text for the book on Norway.
